Storm

Today we got a few inches of snow and a few weeks ago there was rain. I prefer the snow over the rain but I think that my toddler son prefers the rain! He just loves to jump in puddles and hates to come inside when I asked him to. Here is a little poem I wrote about rain storms. Enjoy.

Storm
by Becca Brown

My favorite weather is the rain.
I splash in water, watch it drain.
I slosh in puddles, roll in mud.
It’s twice the fun when there’s a flood!

But when the roaring thunder sounds,
And lighting strikes upon the ground,
My mommy hollers, “come inside”!
I do so but with teary-eyes.

At last the storm clouds roll on by,
I see a sparkle in the sky.
That's Mother Earth, she blinks at me
Cause lightening gives her energy.

So when my mommy spots a bolt
Of Lightening I will not revolt.
For kids it’s deadly if you’re hit.
For Mother Earth it keeps her fit!

The Vertical Architect

Matty is obsessed with stacking. Last week we were at Playdipity in Cohasset, and he was at the play kitchen putting a ketchup bottle on top of a pizza slice, which was sitting atop a soup can. Very cute. This moment and others like it inspired my poem: The Vertical Architect

The Vertical Architect
by Becca Brown

I stack things high, that’s what I do
A vertical masterpiece, I aspire to
build with such craft and creativity
It’s my daily architect activity.

Cups, bowls, building blocks or soup cans
I’m not picky it’s height I command
There's a flaw, a limit, it's all too clear
I'm not a structural engineer.

Matty and Mommy: Fall Change

by Becca Brown

Fall is here, Matty
Mommy said
What is fall?
I scratch my head

Fall is a season
Three months of the year
After summer before winter
You know fall is here

For mommy and me
Fall means change
It’s different to summer
And that feels strange

In summer we swim
At Sandy Beach it’s hot
The beach is now closed
In the fall when it’s not

The sun shines bright
On warm summer days
I see the sun less
Fall sky is more gray

It’s dark in my room
Mommy says night night
Next to my bed
There’s a new nightlight

It’s cold outside
I wear a jacket
My pajamas have pants
My bed a thick blanket

My backyard is rainbow
Red, orange, yellow, and brown
Soon trees will be bare
Leaves fall to the ground

Fall is different to summer
That is true
But change is good

New things to do
